An interesting new species of Sphaerocysta (Heteroptera, Tingidae) from Argentina, with the description of its ffth instar nymph Rev. Soc. Entomol. Argent.
Guidoti,Marcus; Montemayor,Sara I..
A new Neotropical species of Sphaerocysta Stål, (Hemiptera, Heteroptera, Tingidae) is described. Sphaerocysta costai n. sp. was collected in the Argentinian Yungas, in the provinces of Jujuy (Calilegua) and Salta (Urundel). The most important diagnostic characters are illustrated for adults and fifthinstar nymphs. This new species provides relevant evidence for the understanding of evolutionary trends within the family as its nymphal morphology exhibits unique features among Tingidae. Comments on the systematics of Sphaerocysta, and an identification key to its species are provided.

Compared nymphal development of Tingis americana (Hemiptera, Tingidae) in two Handroanthus species (Bignoniaceae) and reproductive parameters in seedlings of Handroanthus heptaphyllus Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Moreira,Daiane C.; Redaelli,Luiza R.; Guidoti,Marcus; Barcellos,Aline.
Nymphs and adults of Tingis americana Drake, 1922 were found feeding on leaves of Handroanthus heptaphyllus (Vell.) Mattos and Handroanthus chrysotrichus (Mart. ex A. DC.) Mattos in the Botanic Garden, Porto Alegre, state of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. This is the first record of T. americana on these host plants and in the southern Brazil. We aimed to compare the nymphal development on both hosts and to analyze the reproductive parameters on H. heptaphyllus (25 ± 1ºC; 60 ± 10% RH; 16 h photophase). The mean nymphal period (days) was shorter in individuals reared on H. heptaphyllus (12.69 ± 0.076) than on H. chrysotrichus (19.11 ± 0.208) (P < 0.0001), however, nymph viability was similar. On H. heptaphyllus, the mean embryonic period lasted 12.32 ± 0.274...

Contributions on Gargaphia (Heteroptera, Tingidae) systematics: redescriptions of two South American species with considerations on the status of G. inca Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Guidoti,Marcus.
Gargaphia inca Monte, 1943 was synonymized with G. opima Drake, 1931 without any declared reasons. Gargaphia inca is known only from its type location (Satipo, Peru), and G. opima from Colombia (Villavencio) and Peru (Cam. Del Pichis, type-locality), in addition to the new records here presented, including the first record for Ecuador. Both species are redescribed, and the status of G. inca is revisited and raised from synonymy. Illustrations of some of the most remarkable differences between these taxa are provided, as well as dorsal habitus images. Discussions on the genus systematic status and this nomenclatural act are presented.

Maternal care in Gargaphia decoris (Heteroptera, Tingidae), with comments on this behavior within the genus and family Rev. Bras. entomol.
Guidoti,Marcus; Tallamy,Douglas W.; Marsaro Júnior,Alberto Luiz.
Maternal care in Gargaphia decoris is described for the first time. A video is presented as supplementary material. The knowledge on such trait within Tingidae is summarized. The behavior within the family is discussed, and the potential as a source of phylogenetic characters for further analyses is stressed.

Novelties from a cave lace bug (Heteroptera, Tingidae): first nymphal description with a discussion on the morphological patterns of Vianaidinae immatures Iheringia, Sér. Zool.
Guidoti,Marcus; Barcellos,Aline; Ferreira,Rodrigo L..
A nymph of Thaumamannia Drake & Davis, 1960, a rare vianaidine genus known only from adults, is described by the first time. The specimens were collected in the soil and walls of caves located in the state of Pará, Brazil. This is the first record of Vianaidinae for Brazil. The T. vanderdrifti fifth instar is compared with the same stadium of Anommatocoris coleopteratus (Kormilev, 1955), the only other vianaidine nymph described so far, and patterns between them and within the family are also discussed.
